In Kuwait, the IELTS test is run by two organisations, IDP and the British Council, and every venue they list in Kuwait delivers the test on computer. IELTS Academic, General Training and IELTS for UKVI each cost KWD 106 at both providers, according to their current listings on ielts.org. You book online. Results for computer-delivered IELTS usually arrive within one to two days, although IDP Kuwait quotes one to five.
REG Education is a training institute, not a test centre: we prepare candidates, and you book the test itself directly with IDP or the British Council. This guide covers where you can sit it, what it costs, which version to book, and what to do if you need to change your date or retake one skill.
IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP and Cambridge University Press & Assessment. In Kuwait you book through either IDP or the British Council. The test, the scoring and the certificate are the same whichever you choose, so pick the venue and date that suit you.

The fee covers all four sections and one Test Report Form. Both providers note that prices can change. You may still find an older IDP page quoting KWD 93. That is a previous price, so go by the figure the booking page shows you at checkout.
Booking the wrong version is the most expensive mistake you can make, because you cannot convert one result into another. Check what the organisation receiving your score asks for, in writing, before you pay.
| You need IELTS for | Book |
|---|---|
| University study abroad | IELTS Academic |
| Nursing or medical registration (UK NMC, Australia Ahpra, Ireland NMBI) | IELTS Academic |
| Canada Express Entry, Australian or New Zealand skilled migration | IELTS General Training |
| A UK visa (Skilled Worker, Health and Care, Student below degree level) | IELTS for UKVI, Academic or General Training as your visa requires |
| UK family or settlement visa needing a Speaking and Listening test | IELTS Life Skills A1, A2 or B1 |
The UK routes are the most confusing. Our guide to UKVI IELTS for UK visas from Kuwait explains why a standard IELTS result gets UK visa applications refused. For Canada, see Canada Express Entry from Kuwait.
Neither provider publishes how far ahead dates fill up in Kuwait, so if you have a visa or registration deadline, book as soon as you know your target date, then plan your preparation backwards from it.
| Test | Results |
|---|---|
| Computer-delivered IELTS | Usually 1–2 days (IDP Kuwait says 1–5 days) |
| Paper-based IELTS | 13 days (not currently offered at the Kuwait venues listed above) |
| IELTS Life Skills | Within 9 days |
| One Skill Retake | 3–5 days |
Source: IELTS.org results timing. Your result is reported as a band from 1 to 9 for each skill, plus an overall band. Our guide to IELTS test results explains how to read the Test Report Form, and IELTS band scores explained shows how the overall band is calculated.
How long is a result valid? IELTS recommends that organisations accept results for up to two years, but each organisation sets its own rule. Check the one you are applying to.
Yes, with conditions. IELTS One Skill Retake lets you resit a single skill after a computer-delivered test, within 60 days of the original test, once per full test. IDP Kuwait offers it for Academic and General Training, including UKVI.
Nurses applying to the UK should not rely on it. The Nursing and Midwifery Council says you cannot retake individual domains. It needs IELTS Academic with 7.0 in Listening, Reading and Speaking and 6.5 in Writing. Check whether your own regulator, university or visa route accepts a One Skill Retake before you book one.
Rules differ between providers, and the exact notice periods and charges for Kuwait are given at booking rather than published in one place. IDP Kuwait's policy refunds the fee minus an administration charge if you cancel before the minimum notice period. Later cancellations are generally non-refundable, with exceptions for documented medical reasons. Read the policy in your confirmation email, and if your preparation is behind, move your date early rather than sitting a test you expect to resit.
Because every Kuwait venue delivers IELTS on computer, practise on a screen. Free official practice is a good start:
Then sit at least one timed, marked IELTS mock test so you know your real Writing and Speaking level before you pay KWD 106. Most working professionals in Kuwait need eight to twelve weeks of structured preparation to reach their target band.
KWD 106 for IELTS Academic, General Training and IELTS for UKVI at both IDP and the British Council, according to their current IELTS.org listings. IELTS Life Skills costs KWD 62 at the British Council. Fees can change, so confirm the price on the booking page.
Every Kuwait venue currently listed by IDP and the British Council delivers IELTS on computer. If you specifically need a paper test, ask the provider directly.
Computer-delivered results usually arrive within one to two days, according to IELTS.org. IDP Kuwait quotes one to five days.
Neither. IDP and the British Council deliver the same test, marked to the same standard, and the result is accepted in exactly the same way. Choose by venue, date and convenience.
The same original, valid ID you used to book, usually your passport or Civil ID. The name must match your booking exactly.
No. REG Education is a training institute that prepares candidates for IELTS. You book and sit the test itself with IDP or the British Council at one of their venues.
